kevlar (ARAMID) popular for being the one of the strongest composite fabrics in the world for it's weight. No wonder Kevlar is extensively used in bullet proof vests, military helmets, and airplanes. It makes for a very stiff and lightweight skimboard, while having the best impact and flexural strength out of almost any fabric, Kevlar resists rocks from piercing the bottom of the board and prevents the board from snapping in half. Kevlar is also the most abrasion resistant material compared to carbon fiber and E glass so it will be very hard to wear through. Another benefit of a Kevlar board is that it does not rust or splinter when it is exposed. All our Kevlar boards are double Kevlar, meaning multiple layers, top and bottom for maximum strength. A medium sized Kevlar board weighs only about 4.5 pounds. Kevlar skimboard manufacturers are rare. Although other companies choose not to use this material because of the extreme difficulty involved in working with it, we work hard to bring it to the public. We believe that Kevlar is necessary to produce one of the best skimboards in the world. |
